Bills cutting taxes for homeowners, disabled veterans advance

Two bills cutting taxes for property owners and disabled veterans moved out of a Senate committee Monday morning.

The Senate tax committee passed a bill that would eliminate the 1.5-mill property tax levy that funds maintenance and renovations of some state buildings.

The bill would supplant the lost revenue with money from the state general fund,  about $62 million a year. The funding would increase 2% annually after the first year.

The bill also would eliminate the local ad valorem tax reduction fund, which hasn't been . . .
