Bill restricting availability of ballot drop boxes moves out of committee

A bill that would restrict the availability of ballot drop boxes across Kansas emerged from a Senate committee Tuesday in which the debate pitted Attorney General Kris Kobach against Secretary of State Scott Schwab.

The Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee breathed new life into the issue with approval of a bill that limits ballot drop boxes to one in each county regardless of the population.

Testimony on the bill featured a showdown Monday between Kobach and Schwab, two Republican statewide elected officials taking opposite sides of the issue.
