Lawmakers are being asked to set up a new legal standard for the general public to gain access to police body camera footage.

New legislation establishes a legal test that would require judges to decide if the public interest outweighs harm to law enforcement.

The bill stops well short of legislative proposals from last year that would have given the general public outright access to police body camera footage.
