Legislative auditors on Wednesday estimated that Kansas may have paid out about $600 million in fraudulent unemployment clains during 2020, immediately setting off a dispute with the Labor Department over the finding.
Auditors said they made a "high-level estimate" based on 157,000 claims filed from March through November 2020 that the Labor Department identified as potentially fraudulent.
