Abortion amendment recount awaits financial commitment

A statewide recount of the defeated constitutional amendment on abortion has not begun yet as state officials await on a financial commitment to cover the cost.

A spokesperson for the secretary of state's office said Monday morning that the recount would not start until there's a financial guaranty to cover the $230,000 expense.

Despite widespread media reports on Friday, Melissa Leavitt of Colby did not post a bond to pay for the expense of the abortion amendment.
