A.G. bill would limit wrongful conviction compensation stemming from bad counsel

Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach is asking lawmakers to pass a law restricting the ability of someone to seek compensation from the state for the sole reason that they were wrongfully convicted because of bad legal counsel.

Kobach's office is backing a bill that would prevent someone from bringing a civil lawsuit for damages stemming from the singular reason that their conviction was set aside because of ineffective counsel.
