Democratic state Sen. Cindy Holscher of Overland Park was leading the Kansas governor's race by about 5,500 votes out of more than 1 million ballots cast on Tuesday.
Complete by unofficial results showed Holscher leading Republican Senate President Ty Masterson 546,587 to 541,030 although there was no concession in the race.
There is still a three-day grace period in place for postmarked advance mail ballots to arrive at election offices plus provisional ballots still need to be counted before the results are certified.
"We are not giving up," Masterson told an audience late Tuesday night . . .
