As Republican Sen. Ty Masterson wages a campaign for governor, another campaign is playing out behind the scenes that could determine who replaces him as Senate president if he defeats Democratic Sen. Cindy Holscher in November.
Masterson was first elected Senate president in 2020 and is now in his second term leading the chamber. But if he's elected governor this fall, his move to the second floor in the Capitol will open the door for new leader in the Senate.
The candidates quietly merging for that position are Senate Majority Leader Chase Blasi of Wichita and Republican state Sen . . .
