The Kansas Legislature on Friday overturned the governor's veto of a budget measure punishing school districts that allow or encourage student walkouts that have led to an increasing number of protests over immigration enforcement in recent months.
The House voted 87-36 to override the governor's veto. The Senate voted 27-12 for the override. Democratic Sen. Patrick Schmidt of Topeka was absent and didn't vote.
