Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly grudgingly signed the state spending plan approved by the Legislature, calling it a "bad budget that went through a bad process."
The Legislature approved a $10.7 billion state general fund budget for fiscal year 2027 that spends about $475 million more than the state takes in.
The state general fund portion of the budget is a reduction of about $186 million, or 1.7%, from the 2026 estimate.
