Judge sets July 1 as goal for deciding whether to block foreign donor law

A federal judge said he hopes to decide by early next week whether to immediately block a new state law that bans foreign money from flowing into campaigns for state constitutional amendments.

U.S. District Judge Dan Crabtree hopes to rule on a request from Kansans for Constitutional Freedom to issue a preliminary injunction by the time the law starts July 1.

He left open the possibility he could go past the July 1 deadline, saying that getting the decision right was more important than meeting the request from the plaintiffs challenging the law.
