Claeys leaving House, sets sights on Senate

Republican state Rep. J.R. Claeys announced Monday morning that he would not seek reelection to the Kansas House, instead turning his attention to the state Senate.

After four terms representing the 69th House District, the Salina Republican announced he was running for the Senate seat now held by Randall Hardy.

Hardy was elected to the Kansas Senate in 2016 when he defeated conservative Republican incumbent Tom Arpke in a three-person primary in District 24.

He beat a Democrat in the general election with 59% of the vote.
