Legislation would put Dale Dennis controversy to bed

A pair of Kansas lawmakers want to make sure there's never a Dale Dennis situation again.

Dennis, of course, is one of the state’s leading experts on education finance who came under fire when a legislative audit found the state was spending millions more on busing students than allowed by law.

Top legislators wanted him suspended until the issue could be examined further. Hundreds came to defense. The Education Department backed him.

But two lawmakers — Republican state Rep. Melissa Rooker and Senate Minority Leader Anthony Hensley — are working to make sure history isn't repeated.
