Gubernatorial candidates make their pitch at Democratic convention

Anyone eager for some red meat about Republicans Kris Kobach, Jeff Colyer or Sam Brownback at Saturday’s Democratic gubernatorial forum had to sit patiently.

For about an hour, the four major Democratic candidates — former Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer, former state Rep. Josh Svaty, state Sen. Laura Kelly and state House Minority Leader Jim Ward — fed a packed room at the Ramada Topeka Downtown Hotel with a steady diet of policy.

With little marked difference other than style, the four major candidates — joined by the less well financed candidates — covered education, health care, social services, transportation and the economy.
