Senate President Susan Wagle is looking at making a bid for the U.S. Senate seat held by the retiring Pat Roberts.
A spokeswoman said Wagle is in the process of forming an exploratory committee to look at a U.S. Senate run in 2020.
"She believes there is a serious need for more conservative women in Congress," spokeswoman Shannon Golden said.
Wagle's announcement comes a day after Republican Treasurer Jake LaTurner announced he was running for the U.S. Senate.
LaTurner has the backing of Ivan Crossland and Dave Murfin, two big players in the Kansas business community . . .
