Veil lowered on ‘Project Ocean’

For months, it was only known as "Project Ocean."

On Wednesday, the veil opened, revealing that Panasonic had chosen Kansas over Oklahoma for a historic $4 billion electric vehicle battery plant that will employ 4,000.

Appearing before a ballroom packed with several hundred business executives and lawmakers, Gov. Laura Kelly revealed that the Japanese manufacture had picked an old munitions depot in De Soto for the plant.

Kelly's announcement came hours after a Japanese publication reported that Panasonic had picked Kansas for the plant, officially ending months of unsuccessful efforts to keep the name of the plant out . . .
