Trucking industry battles bill expanding tolling

The state's trucking industry on Thursday came out against a proposal that could expand tolling beyond the Kansas Turnpike.

The Kansas Motor Carriers Association locked horns with Gov. Laura Kelly's administration over a bill giving the highway department the power to make tolling decisions with input from local communities. Those decisions are now made by the Legislature.

The bill also changes the law so that tolls no longer have to cover the entire cost of a highway project, meaning that tolling could be used elsewhere . . .
