Top House Democrat files for Senate seat

The top Democrat in the Kansas House filed to run for a seat in the Kansas Senate on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the secretary of state's office confirmed that Minority Leader Vic Miller filed to run in Senate District 19, a new district fashioned by the Legislature in 2022.

The Legislature drew a new District 19 that moved incumbent Republican Sen. Rick Kloos into Senate District 3 that has been represented by Democratic Sen. Tom Holland.

The new Senate District 19, which favors Democrats, includes parts of Lawrence, Lecompton, Tecumseh and Topeka.
