State education board seeks to make pay equitable with lawmakers

The Kansas State Board of Education on Tuesday approved a legislative agenda that includes tweaking a state law so its members earn what state legislators make.

The recent increase in salaries for state legislators left the Board of Education out of a pay raise for the first time that has traditionally been linked to pay raises for lawmakers.

Earlier this year, the State Department of Education staff advised the state board that its salaries are no longer tied to increases in pay for the Legislature.
