Senators seek to salvage tax, education bills

Kansas senators are making a last-ditch effort to save two bills that Gov. Laura Kelly vetoed this week, including one that would extend the deadline for paying property taxes and bring more transparency to property tax collections.

In a brief meeting late Wednesday afternoon, the Senate tax committee moved out a bill that would delay payment of property taxes to Aug. 10 without interest or penalties. Property taxes were due May 10.

Meanwhile, the Senate Education Committee moved to resurrect a SSJ
