Senator seeks to force vote on bill banning abortion

A motion made in the Senate that would force a vote on an abortion ban "does not advance the cause of life forward in our state," an email from major pro-life groups sent to senators says.

Republican state Sen. Mark Steffen of Hutchinson made a motion on the Senate floor Wednesaday  to pull a bill from committee that would ban abortions except when necessary to preserve the life of a woman in a medical emergency.

He will need 24 votes to pull it from the committee. The Senate will have to vote on the motion Thursday afternoon, just months . . .
