Senate reconsiders, passes constitutional amendment capping property tax appraisals

Less than 24 hours after it was dealt a setback, a constitutional amendment capping property appraisals at 4% for tax purposes cleared the Senate on Thursday morning.

Republican state Sen. Brenda Dietrich of Topeka, who voted against the amendment Wednesday, changed her mind and moved for the Senate to reconsider the amendment.

"I've often believed that consistency is the way that we build trust with our constituents and with each of our members in this caucus," Dietrich said.

"I have voted twice on the constitutional amendment regarding property tax . . .
