Senate panel votes out bill eliminating taxes on Social Security

A proposal that would erase income taxes on Social Security benefits cleared a Senate committee on Wednesday.

It was the first major piece of tax legislation to get out of committee this session in a year when taxes are expected to be a source of hot debate.

There's been a growing consensus in the Kansas Legislature to addressing income tax on Social Security, although there are differences of opinion about the approach.
