Kansas Senate leadership is getting behind a bill that would save millions for taxpayers who may be surprised to learn next year that they can’t itemize on their state tax returns.
Senate President Susan Wagle and Senate Majority Leader Jim Denning are calling on lawmakers to fix part of a state law that bars taxpayers from itemizing on their state return when they don’t itemize on their federal return.
“Going home without fixing the itemization would be a dereliction of our duty,” Denning said Monday afternoon.
