Katie Koupal on Friday left her position as a deputy for Secretary of State Scott Schwab to take a job in the private sector.
Koupal, who oversaw communications and policy for Schwab, is leaving to take a job in marketing and communications outside of government.
Koupal was the spokeswoman for Schwab on election issues and was often at the Capitol addressing questions about legislation.
She had been with Schwab since he took office in 2019, moving back to state government after working as the area manager for external affairs at AT&T.
She also worked as chief of staff for former Senate Vice President Jeff King and served as political director in the Kansas House when Mike O’Neal presided as speaker.
She also was political director for the Kansas Republican Party in 2010.
Her replacement has not yet been determined.
