Democratic state Sen. Patrick Schmidt on Wednesday defended his abortion record despite amending a bill to provide a tax deduction for a fetus that was criticized as harmful by abortion rights supporters.
Schmidt said he has been fielding calls for the last 24 hours after amending a bill holding fathers responsible for picking up the cost of child support from the moment of conception.
