Republican leadership in the Legislature on Tuesday named their appointments to a special committee that will assume responsibilities for crafting a new budget to start next year's session. The Senate Democrats made their appointments Wednesday.
The new 23-member committee represents a significant change from tradition when the governor would present a budget to the Legislature to consider.
Now, the governor will still develop a budget, but lawmakers said it will be treated more as an amendment to the budget rather than a starting point.
The committee is set to meet for five days . . .
