Former television meteorologist Mike Thompson was unanimously selected on Saturday morning to fill Mary Pilcher-Cook's seat in the state Senate.
Republican precinct leaders voted 46-0 to pick Thompson to fill the Senate District 10 seat with Pilcher-Cook's retirement after 15 years in the Kansas statehouse.
Thompson will fill out Pilcher-Cook's term in the Senate and will run for the seat later this year. She retires next week. He has Pilcher-Cook's support.
