Republican state Rep. Mark Samsel is nearing a plea deal that will settle charges of misdemeanor battery stemming from an outburst that occurred when he was working as a substitute teacher in Wellsville.
Samsel appeared in court on Monday when his lawyer informed Magistrate Judge Kevin Kimball that a plea deal was close at hand.
Samsel's lawyer, Chris Scott, told the judge last week that he hoped to have a plea ready to go by Monday.
He conceded he may have gotten "too aggressive" in trying to proceed with a plea on Monday.
