Senate President Ty Masterson on Monday morning named a state senator from Leavenworth County as his running mate as he officially filed to run for governor.
Masterson tapped Republican state Sen. Jeff Klemp of Lansing to be his running mate for lieutenant governor.
Klemp is not up for reelection so he can return to the Senate if Masterson isn’t elected governor.
Klemp is in his first term representing 5th District in the Kansas Senate after narrowly defeating Democratic incumbent Jeff Pittman in the 2024 general election.
He is vice chair of the Senate transportation committee and serves on the House tax and commerce committees.
He is a principal of Kinetic Retail Group, which says it helps “retail and service clients to excel in automation, product development, optimizing and scaling their kiosk business.”
Klemp runs
Masterson is running with the support of President Donald Trump. He is the sixth Republican primary candidate to announce a running mate.
