John C. Peterson, a former state lawmaker who founded one of the oldest contract lobbying firms in Kansas, passed away Wednesday. He was 76.
Founder and chief executive of Capitol Strategies, Peterson had been lobbying continuously since 1976. He served in the Kansas House before starting his career as a lobbyist.
Peterson was first elected to the Kansas House of Representatives in 1970 where he served for four years.
House Speaker Pete McGill named him chair of the Public Health and Welfare Committee, making him one of the youngest members to chair a committee.
