Local leaders pitch road projects to transportation secretary

With the general election weeks away, Republican Congressman Kevin Yoder brought U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao to the area Monday to survey local transportation needs.

Chao met with a couple dozen civic leaders from across the area in a closed-door roundtable discussion Monday followed by a bus trip down U.S. 69, an increasingly congested corridor through Overland Park.

Chao's trip was billed as an "official visit," meaning that it wasn't campaign related. Yoder, who is in highly contested race against Democrat Sharice Davids, said he had been working for several months to line up Chao . . .
