Legislature passes bill giving lawmakers voice in filling U.S. Senate vacancies

The Kansas Legislature would have a hand in picking vacancies for the U.S. Senate under a bill approved by lawmakers Monday.

The House and Senate agreed on a bill giving the Legislature the power to help pick not only a replacement for the Senate but insurance commissioner and state treasurer as well.

The House voted 84-36 to approve the agreement that came out of a conference committee. The Senate voted SSJ
