Leavenworth County commissioner says math doesn’t lead to victory

Leavenworth County Commissioner Mike Stieben said late Wednesday that he doesn't foresee winning the House District 42 race against Republican state Rep. Lance Neelly of Tonganoxie.

Stieben picked up five votes after the canvass in Leavenworth County on Wednesday, bringing him 35 votes short of Neelly in the GOP primary for this House seat.

Stieben said he bought an ad in the Tonganoxie Mirror thanking supporters and "basically conceding the race."

Even with Douglas and Jefferson counties having not canvassed, Stieben said the numbers don't add up for him. Neither county canvasses until Monday.
