Lawmakers seek options for potential budget cuts

Lawmakers are directing state agencies to lay out possible budget cuts for fiscal year 2026 as they map out a budget in the coming weeks.

The agencies will be asked to identify 7.5% in proposed budget cuts that lawmakers can consider as they craft a budget.

The agencies will be asked what they might cut if their budget was reduced by 7.5%.

Republican state Rep. Troy Waymaster, chair of the House appropriations committee, asked for the "reduced resources proposal" from the state agencies.

Waymaster couldn't attend Wednesday's meeting because he was set to undergo surgery later . . .
