Congressman Jake LaTurner’s district representative is moving over to the secretary of state’s office to become communications and policy director.
Whitney Tempel had worked as district representative for LaTurner and former Congressman Steve Watkins since 2019.
She worked earlier as a scheduler for former Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins.
Tempel earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership and leadership studies from Fort Hays State University.
She also has a master’s degree in higher edcuation/higher education administration from Fort Hays State.
Tempel replaces Katie Koupal, who took a job in the private sector.
Meanwhile, Clay Barker will be promoted to general counsel from deputy general counsel.
Barker, the former executive director of the Kansas Republican Party, has more than 25 years of legal experience.
He is a graduate of the University of Kansas Law School and the United States Military Academy at West Point.
