A year ago, President Donald Trump couldn't have been more effusive about Kris Kobach.
Speaking to a frenzied audience of thousands at a rally in Topeka, Trump heaped praise on Kobach, declaring him "tough" and "strong."
Trump said he hated that Kobach ran for governor last year because the president wanted to hire him as part of his administration.
"In fact, if he loses I will bring him into my administration in two seconds," Trump said. "I hope he loses because I want him so badly."
It was Trump's endorsement tweet at the end of the Republican primary . . .
