KHP names new second-in-command

Kansas Highway Patrol Superintendent Erik Smith is putting together his leadership team, appointing Capt. John Lehnherr as the agency's new second in command.

Lehnherr, a 24-year veteran of the patrol who also is the mayor of Park City, starts Oct. 15 when he will succeed retiring Lt. Col. Jason De Vore.

Lehnherr, who will now be a lieutenant colonel, joined the patrol in March 1999 and was assigned to Troop F in Sedgwick County.

He later transferred to Troop G, which is assigned to the Kansas Turnpike.

In 2011, Lehnherr was promoted to field lieutenant for Troop G . . .
