Gov. Laura Kelly on Friday vetoed a bill directing her administration to seek a waiver from the federal government to exclude candy and soda from purchases covered by federal food assistance benefits.
“This bill is simply wrong. Not only would it make it more difficult for Kansans to access the food they need to feed their families, it would also harm Kansas businesses," Kelly said in a statement.
Kelly said the waiver required by the legislation would confuse grocers and small businesses.
