Gov. Laura Kelly and former Gov. Kathleen Sebelius - two Democratic Party luminaries - find themselves on opposite sides of a Senate primary race in Lawrence pitting a sitting House member against a veteran incumbent.
Last week, Kelly's political action committee announced it would support Democratic state Sen. Marci Francisco as she seeks a sixth term representing the Senate's 2nd District, which the governor won with 83% of the vote in 2022.
Francisco is battling a primary challenge from Democratic state Rep. Christina Haswood, the only Native American in the Legislature, who is backed by Sebelius.
