Kansas open government advocate passes away


Attorney Mike Merriam, a longtime advocate for open government in Kansas, passed away recently in Andrews, Texas. He was 66.

Merriam, who served as the Kansas Press Association's legal hotline attorney for more than 30 years, died May 19. He retired in October 2015 because of health issues.

Over the years, Merriam had been involved in any number of legal battles . . .
