Johnson County plans to legally challenge Attorney General Kris Kobach's new opinion questioning whether the county exceeded its authority to ask voters to renew a public safety sales tax to fund mental health and emergency medical services.
The Johnson County Commission has agreed to move the election for renewing the quarter-cent sales tax from November 2025 to March 2026 to allow a court to consider the matter. The tax does not expire until March 2027.
