Insurance commissioner names general counsel

Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt on Tuesday named Justin McFarland as the agency's  general counsel.

McFarland joins the department after serving more than eight years in the Kansas Department of Labor in various roles, including deputy general counsel and director of Labor Market Information.

“Justin brings the right combination of legal and administrative experience to be an excellent general counsel,” Schmidt said.

“It is important to me the department is represented with the highest level of legal and ethical standards and I am thrilled Justin has agreed to serve in this role.”

McFarland earned a law degree from Washburn University . . .
