In-state tuition bill for illegal immigrants bypasses House committee, referred to full chamber

Republican House leadership is fast-tracking a bill banning immigrants living in the United States illegally from receiving most state or local benefits, including in-state tuition at higher education institutions.

The bill moved from the Senate to the House where it was referred the committee of the whole instead of one of its policy committees.

The maneuver means it won't have a committee hearing in the House, which will get a final up-or-down vote on the bill. It's not known when it will be debated . . .
