UPDATED: How new flat tax bill could affect Kansans

Last week, a House committee moved out a new tax bill that calls for a flat tax at 5.25% and eliminates the state sales tax on food starting July 1, cuts property taxes and increases the standard deduction based on inflation.

The new bill would not tax the first $6,150 in income for single filers and $12,300 for married couples filing jointly.
