House Majority Leader Dan Hawkins on Thursday asked Gov. Laura Kelly to open up the meetings of a working group she created to advise her on Medicaid expansion.

Hawkins wants Kelly to open the panel's meetings to the press and the public. He also wants a sufficient amount of time for public comment.

"Gov. Kelly's new working group has been given significant responsibility in recommending legislation that will cost the people of Kansas hundreds of millions of dollars,"  Hawkins said in a statement. "The governor owes the taxpayers an opportunity to participate in the working group."
