A former Johnson County undersheriff and Navy SEAL is running against Johnson County Sheriff Calvin Hayden, who has gained statewide notoriety for an investigation of voter fraud that has failed to produce any results.
Doug Bedford, who was an undersheriff for Hayden from 2017 to 2021, has filed to run for the position as a Republican next year.
He's the first candidate to file against the sheriff so far, although there is speculation that more candidates could follow.
He presumably would face Hayden unless the incumbent chooses not to seek reelection.
