Democratic pastor Adam Hamilton on Tuesday smashed a political barrier, becoming the first Democrat elected to the U.S. Senate from Kansas since the Great Depression as he preached a message of kindness and decency.
"Thank you, Kansas. Thank you for your faith in me and for the opportunity to fight for you in Washington," Hamilton posted on Facebook with a headline pronouncing him senator-elect.
With 89% of the precincts counted, Hamilton led Republican incumbent Roger Marshall, 52% to 45%, according to unofficial election results.
