Former Republican Party spokesman CJ Grover has signed on to manage Attorney General Derek Schmidt’s campaign for governor.

Grover this week confirmed he will be working as Schmidt’s campaign manager, a title now listed on his Twitter account.

Schmidt is now engaged in the unfolding primary for governor against former Gov. Jeff Colyer.

Grover had been the Republican Party’s spokesman since August 2020 after running the Plains PAC, which spent more than $3 million to help Congressman Roger Marshall win the GOP primary for the U.S. Senate.

The former aide to Congressman Kevin Yoder rejoins Schmidt after working as his public information for 2019 and most of 2020.

Grover, a 2012 graduate of the University of Kansas Law School, had worked for Yoder in a number of roles from 2012 through 2018.

He ran Yoder’s unsuccessful reelection campaign for Congress in 2018.

He also had worked as a field coordinator for Yoder’s 2012 congressional campaign and later as his press secretary and communications director.

He also worked as a deputy military legislative assistant for U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts from 2012 to 2014.

Grover is part of a campaign that includes U.S. Sen. Roger Marshall’s former campaign manager Eric Pahls, who is working as a consultant on the campaign as well.

Pahls works as vice president of Big Dog Strategies, a national firm, with offices in Buffalo, New York, Washington D.C. and Austin, Texas.

Last election cycle, Big Dog worked for Marshall’s U.S. Senate campaign and former Congressman Steve Watkins.
