UPDATED: Governor weighs in race for party leadership

Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly is flexing her political muscle in the race for Democratic Party chair, backing political newcomer Jeanna Repass over her former lieutenant governor, Lynn Rogers.

Kelly signed on to a letter backing Repass along with U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids, top state Senate Democrat Dinah Sykes of Lenexa and top state House Democrat Vic Miller of Topeka.

"Her electric energy and bold optimism will engage a new generation of Kansas Democrats, something she's already successfully begun to do," the letter said.
